February Bulletin

You Tell on Yourself

You tell on yourself by the friends you seek,

By the very manner in which you speak,

By the way you employ your leisure time,

By the use you make of dollar & dime.

You tell on yourself by the things you wear,

By the spirit in which your burdens you bear,

By the type of things at which you laugh,

By the records you play on your phonograph.

You tell what you are by the way you walk,

By the things of which you delight to talk,

By the manner in which you bear defeat,

By so simple a thing as how you eat.

By the books you choose from the library shelf,

By these things and more … you tell on yourself.

Opportunity to Give Hope to a Haiti Child

Life for the children of Haiti was extremely difficult prior to the earthquake.  Their world collapsed around them last week.  Try to imagine their day to day challenges as they attempt to deal with the devastating impact of this massive earthquake.

*The emotional stress of losing loved ones & the fear of tomorrow

*Supply lines disrupted … with food, water, & fuel shortages

*Higher costs for basic necessities, when available

*The strain of accommodating the flow of injured & displaced people moving out of Port au Prince into already overcrowded villages & countryside.

The children of Haiti need your help today.  Please consider the opportunity of lifting a child up & giving them hope through child sponsorship for only $25.00 per month.  To learn more or request a sponsorship, visit the Child Sponsorship page on the World Relief website:  www.acworldrelief.org  Applications are also available at your church.

World Relief Info for Helping Haiti

We have witnessed the devastating impact the earthquake of January 12 has had on the people of Haiti, and we are committed to helping. Food and water are essential, as this trauma has disrupted transportation and destroyed the occupations of so many. Medical supplies are urgently needed for trauma victims. Thousands of Haitians are living with their only possessions being the clothes they are wearing. Food, medical supplies and clothing are the most urgent needs.

We will be sending food, medical supplies and clothes for at least the next 6-10 months. Sorting of the clothes and shoes into groups of boys, girls, men and women's would be very helpful. Shoes and under garments are also needed and they should be sorted as well. The clothing and bedding should be for a warm climate.

Label all boxes with the contents. Also, please have like items in a box so the distribution in Haiti is easier. Supplies are most helpful if they are appropriate items, organized and sent through legitimate channels.

Medical Supplies

The need is for supplies to use for trauma victims. Listed below are the items that were requested:

  • Gauze 4 x 4
  • IV supplies
  • Elastic/ace bandages - 4", 6", 8"
  • Kirlex
  • Clean bandages
  • Betadine
  • Plaster bandages for casts
  • Sheet cotton for putting under plaster casts sheets
  • Analgesic injectables - ketamine?
  • Antibiotic injectables
  • IV antibiotics
  • Oral antibiotics.
  • Pain medicines
  • Gloves, sterile and non-sterile

Haitian boy drinking waterMedications cannot be outdated and should have at least 6 months before expiration. Other supplies can be close to expiration. Please pack like items together. For example, all dressings in one box and IV supplies in another box.  Label clearly on the outside of the box the items and the number.

If you have supplies to donate, please transport them to the Goodfield, IL or Bluffton, IN Distribution Centers. You may also UPS items to Bob Honegger in Bluffton.

Contributions

Donations for relief can be sent through local AC churches or to the World Relief Treasurer.  Checks should be made out to ACWR and designated "Haiti Earthquake Disaster Relief."

Good Neighbors

If you know of someone who needs help or would like to be a “good neighbor” yourself, please let the Good Neighbor Coordinators know.  The coordinators are:  Dale & Joann Sauder and Bill & Marilyn Huette.  Thanks!

Attention Parents … from Charles

If you have a home computer with Internet access, please consider installing a “filter” if you haven’t prior to this.  We continue to have sad experiences where parents thought that filtering was not necessary.  Go to our church website:  http://www.tremontacc.org/ and click on “Links”, then click on “Content Filtration”.  After reading the information there, click on “Next” at the bottom of the page & it will lead you through a simple sign-up procedure.  This is the filter that myself & a number of others have on our computers.  If you have trouble getting through this, call me or any of the others in our congregation who have computer experience.  I recognize that a filter is not perfect, but it will protect your young children & will keep unwanted things from popping up on your screen.  We still need to treat the Intenet with caution even with a filter.

SS Benefit

This year the SS will be having a homemade pizza benefit fundraiser.  Order forms were sent in the mail, so if you wish to order, please mark your selections & write your name/phone number on the form & return the completed forms to the information center at church by February 10th.

The pizzas will be available for pick-up or delivery on February 27th from 12:00-5:00 p.m.  Donations will also be accepted at that time.  If you did not receive a form, please contact James & Brenda Fehr.
