October Bulletin

Autumn

The trees in vale & forest are robed in garments bright;

They do foretell the season in autumn’s pleasant light.

The green of spring & summer has turned to red & gold.

Whence comes these tints so glorious which now the trees unfold?

An artist may be skillful, but hardly can portray

These trees in autumn’s splendor, in colorful array.

The gold & brown & crimson, the scarlet with the green,

These colors, all resplendent, are made by Hands unseen.

Before the winds of autumn have blown leaves to the earth,

We see their golden virtues, their beauty & their worth.

O, listen, little leaflets, as autumn days grow cold,

As to the earth you’re falling, a lesson you unfold:

May I, when life if ended, as a tree in autumn’s glow

When back to earth I’m falling, such golden virtues show.

Domestic Center Open House

The Domestic Center is a training school in Les Cayes, Haiti which operates nearby where our own missionaries work.  The school specializes in teaching Haitian women the domestic arts.  We will be displaying some of the linens, needlework, & other handmade items … such as purses, bags, sweaters, etc.  By selling these items to Americans, we hope to assist these women in the daunting task of providing for their families in one of the poorest countries in the world.  The Domestic Center Open House will take place at the FH on Friday, November 6th from 3:00-9:00 p.m. & Saturday, November 7th from 9:00-12:00 Noon.

Mirror of the Soul

Humility makes a man peaceable among his brethren, fruitful of doing good, cheerful in suffering and constant in holy living.  Humility makes us qualified for the highest service that we owe to Christ and at the same time is not neglectful of the lowliest service to the saint in the most modest of circumstances.  Humility can be content with the poorest of fare and yet will have a special liking for the choicest tidbit, as with God, with Christ and be entertained majestically.  Humility makes one willing and ready to bless him who curses him and to pray for him who persecutes him.  A humble heart is an abode of God, a disciple of Christ, a companion of angels, a storage utensil for grace, and is prepared for glory.  Humility is the attentive nurse or guardian of our grace and gifts and the mighty spur to consecrated exercise of duty.
