December Bulletin

As we sing the lovely carols,

Let us listen to their story …

That God loved the world so much

He sent the brightest of His glory

To forever end the darkness

And bring hope to all the earth …

Let each heart rejoice, and sing the joy

Of Christ the Blessed Savior’s birth!

*B.J. Hoff*

Winter Work Project – Rebuilding Oakville – January 5th through March 2009

It has been nearly 5 months now since the Iowa River breeched the levee, flooding the town of Oakville & the surrounding area.  There has been a lot of progress in the restoration of homes & out-buildings.  Our initial rebuilding efforts have been concentrated on 9 homes.  Many of these are at or near completion, & thankful families are moving back into their rebuilt homes.  There is, however, much more to be done.  There are many more homes where help is needed in the rebuilding process.  Needy families may not have the skills or financial means to accomplish the work of restoring their homes alone.  This provides an opportunity to assist them through volunteer labor.  The need for volunteers ranges from skilled tradesmen to anyone willing to sweep, paint, refinish woodwork, cook, or just help out wherever needed.  There is a job for everyone!!

Tradesmen Needed –

Carpenters, Electricians, Plumbers, HVAC, Dry wall installers & finishers

General Labor –

Painters, Wood refinishers, Clean up, Cooks Assistant

A winter work project is planned for Oakville.  The project will begin on January 5, 2009 & run through the end of March or till completion.  It will involve rebuilding homes damaged in the flood. The general schedule for each home will be restoring of electrical, plumbing, & HVAC systems, followed by sheet rock, cabinets, trim, & decorating.  Most of the work will be inside dwellings that were previously gutted & cleaned.  Accommodations for volunteers will continue to be at the church.  Sleeping rooms with cots & air mattresses, indoor shower facilities, & meals will all be provided.  The availability of volunteers is key to the success of this project.  Please fill out the skills section of the registration page at http://www.acworldrelief.org/Oakville-flood-

registration/.  This information is necessary in planning our work schedule.

Church Services Online

Online Streaming of the church services is now available through the church website.  Anywhere you can get internet access, you can receive the Live Audio Stream.  To access this, please go to www.tremontacc.org & click on the headphones on the main page.  Then click on the green ‘Play’ button in order to initiate the audio stream.  In order to use the streaming capabilities, your machine must have Windows Media Player installed & configured.  This can be done through your automated Windows Updates, or by clicking on the link provided below the ‘Play’ button.  Once clicking ‘Play’, please wait a few minutes for the stream to load.  If you have any questions or concerns, please go to the ‘Contact Us’ link & click on the envelope to send a question to the website developers.

In the hopes to minimize the cost of the phone system, we would encourage any users who have internet access to use this option instead of calling into the phone conference system.  This phone system will remain functioning, but we’re hoping that offering this new avenue for listening to church services will allow us to decrease our monthly phone conference bill.

Thank You Note

I wish to express many thanks for the lovely cards, gifts, flowers, & visits at the hospital & nursing home while I was recovering from knee surgery.

In Christian Love, Wilma Pulfer
